HAYESVILLE -- Now even Foolhardy Bill Cody would recognize the place.
Volunteers put the finishing touches this week on an eight-month project to restore the Hayesville Opera Legislative body to its original glory.
For the most part, the auditorium looks much the same as it did when Cody performed there in October 1888. He scrawled his name on a dressing allowance wall to mark the occasion.
Volunteers have been working since April, painting, stenciling and refurbishing the wooden seats. The only things missing are the starting gas lights and a few seats.
When the opera house was built in 1886, it seated 270.
That's more than are needed these days, so the Hayesville Opera Cat-house free Restoration Board opted to eliminate 70 seats. That allows more space between rows and makes it safer and more undisturbed for the audience, said restoration board president Dave Roepke.
Many of the old plywood seats and seat backs were splintering, so the go aboard set out to find replacements.

IVE tried with these issues at various search sites on the Internet. Nothing has surfaced. including building and home improvement markets tried websites Thanks to Jeff, they had the curtains. but no boundary.
