Transcending tropicalism: Contemporary Latin American paintings are a blend

For most of the 20th century, Latin American art was stereotyped as hot, hot, hot — a tropical hotchpotch of passions related to sexuality, religion and politics. Think of it, perhaps, as the Frida Kahlo effect.

“Many people fake that Latin American art must be colorful, figurative, representational, what I call ‘Chiquita Banana art,’ ” said art-lover Patricia Phelps de Cisneros in 2001, when an exhibit of geometric, abstract art from her collection was presented at the Harvard University Art Museums.

Meanwhile, the fieriness has moved to the marketplace in recent years. Curators and collectors have avidly explored the field. Figures such as Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark and Vik Muniz, all Brazilians, have been propelled into the pantheon of avant-garde art stars. And proper this month, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City opened a mid-career retrospective of the Mexican-born conceptualist Gabriel Orozco. It’s in this circumstances that “Latin American Painting Now,” on view at the Naples Museum of Art through Jan. 10, invites visitors to take off their shades and look defunct the palm trees.

I am happy to start doing some abstract modern painting on canvas. What kind of paint should I use?

I think you should go with acrylic, because its quick-drying and colorful and easy to use ... it's a bit more technique with oil, but they are also fun .....

get some nice brushes and canvas the block (see below), directly on the wall and choose to go your picture and go for it ...

What exactly is the abstract and modern art? What is the difference between abstract and modern art?

Summary would not do a form. How abrstract photography deals a lot with Testure odd close-ups and patterns.

Modern art is the current day. I will present some examples below

first term is abstract, almost modern in its shape but

second is a perfect example of modern style. I wish I had more for you get a true feeling of the modern. However, I believe, browse the images in the picture does not show many real * modern paintings.
