Nature's delights inspire paintings by Serene Flax

THE WONDERS of simplicity, from coral reefs to deserts to towering mountains, provide a world of inspiration for Serene Flax, whose paintings are featured in the expo "Planet Earth" opening Jan. 4 at the Caldwell Gallery.

Flax started her career in art more than 45 years ago in Chicago, where she graduated from the Chicago Academy of Great Arts. Over the years her art has reflected her passionate interest in social and environmental concerns.

The artist, whose studio is at the 1870 Art Center in Belmont, works from impressions, memories, chimera, Jacques Cousteau films and books on underwater photography. She notes with a laugh how she will make up forms and then find them in books. "Kind is extraordinary in its fantastic forms and colors," she says.

Among the numerous honors Flax has received for her work is a Lifetime Fulfilment Award from the National Women's Caucus for Art.

She has shown her drawings, watercolors and acrylic paintings throughout the United States.

Do acrylic paintings or oil paintings last longer?

I wanted to know if acrylic paintings would last longer than traditional oil painting? What pros use, so that their images last and framing, if an image is preserved and paint does or what is the best way to get them?

I think that if both species kept in a secure environment and not exposed to light, tobbacco, direclt dirt and moisture, they should keep just fine.

But one must take into account that oils take a long time to keep dry, so they can first absorb pollutants that may affect the deterioration of the image later, and acrylic are unproven over 100s years ago, simply because they not that long ago.

Why do oil paintings sell for more than acrylic paintings?

I have the paintings of abstract art for years. I recently decided it might be fun to start online sales of paintings and objects on websites like eBay. The problem is to sell paintings for more than a tonne of acrylic paintings on eBay. Why is this so?
I forgot to mention. I use acrylic paints.

Oil is more than a "pro" type of paint good to see - there's really no difference. But I have a few tips for your abstract paintings to go on: D no need to switch to oil, oil + abstract rule, it turns out crap and wasteful ... although I have seen some very beautiful before ...

anyway

You need your images PRODUCT. Do something about it so unique and more than just "Acrylic". For example, I know this guy who is not an abstract acrylic painting, but they finished wrapped in plastic to make it look like email - a shiny plastic surface effects.His work was a little more commercial and he sold to hotels ...
If you (really get into the sale and if you do not now) has not been sold it may be worth considering your audience and what distinguishes it from the others.
