"Seethe can only with difficulty, and never entirely, be brought under the domination of the intelligence," the great American writer James Baldwin observed in 1953, "and is therefore not susceptible to any arguments whatever." An African American living in a unsatisfactory Swiss village, where he grappled with Old World racism that illuminated the New World form he knew so well, Baldwin was carving out break to regard quotidian reality with furious anger.
For a group of 20 text-paintings at Regen Projects , New York artist Glenn Ligon has employed an pericope of Baldwin's essay "Stranger in the Village," the last piece in his celebrated collection "Notes of a National Son." Ligon has used the excerpt before. The new paintings were made from a silk-screen of an earlier version.
What the exact pick out says is impossible to decipher, however, since a combination of pitch-black coal dust and smeared screen-printing obscures the words. Rather than the text, tactile and coarse, flows like lava down the canvas' surface. The contradictory consequence is a gorgeous suite of unexpectedly elegant, even glamorous abstractions.

which color goes good with black and white art?
Jun 29, 2007 by kool | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
have most of my art is black and white.
Where painting is concerned, black and white are not colors. In fact, white as the absence of all colors (which is why you put white with any color at all) and black is a mixture of all colors (for this reason is well) works with any color.
Now I'm sitting here and you may receive a variety of colors that would work well, but when I said, green, green, and you hate, then you were not satisfied with the answer, and I would not have helped ... that is my mission here on Yahoo Answers! So let's get back to basics.
What you want is your art to be the focus in the room.To keep the frames are consistent. Use the same color frame for each piece of art, as far as possible. This will bring focus to the art and not frames.
As the color for the wall, because everything fits black and white, I suggest you select up an object, like this (in the same room curtains, pillows, furniture, decorative objects, rugs, etc.) Basically, you can choose something in the room that you really like. Choose a color that is used in the object and the color is. You can even to provide a shop where they paint color, and they can scan the object to find the exact match and recipe for the color.
Note that color is also psychological ... really! The direction your room faces will have an impact on your color choice. For example, if you will check in to the south, you do not want a warm color (eg red) on the walls, how you feel warm and smothered set in the summer. Place warm colors in the north, the rooms. The same goes for the opposite: If your room is to the north before, you will not want to put a cold paint on the walls (like icicle blue) than in the winter months, is chilled and uncomfortable feeling in the room.
I know many people here have suggested to put red on the walls .... If you do this, choose a complex red (color is a complex 2 or more names in the description have names like the color ... cranberry red in contrast to simple), only red. The choice of a complex color will ensure that the color is rich, textured and depth, which in turn not to the color of paint you ... SCREAM By the way, for in my humble opinion, can you see black, red and white, very strong ... and ordinary, to say the least.
Another important factor in choosing a color is the mood that you reach in the room.If you are pumped for a living, exiciting & adrenalin room, definitely go with red, green, pink or orange a new pumpkin ... But when you relax on the search for a room, relaxing, soothing and beneficial, then to soft pink, soft olive should be beige or chocolate milk opt. If you are looking for a Zen feeling in the room, then you should decide for bamboo greens, turquoise Caribbean Ocean dried bamboo or soft beige. The use of a beigy (not yellow-beige!) Bamboo wallpaper with a discreet and very little visual texture of bamboo ... it looks stunning and provide important Zen!If you represent a country like the room the feeling that in any case for the purple, yellow, cream or soft cream opt new spring leaf green family ... They have flowers and chintz-covered furniture? If you do this, choose a pastel color in the object to scream: "I love to feel run the country". If your organization is neutral, it is always easier to redesign a room ... It all depends on what gives the feeling of the furniture ... Because unless you plan to replace your furniture, is what you have to work with.
I personally would choose to black & white artwork to flow with (in my perception, and here on Yahoo Answers, it's all about perception!) "What comes to mind is black and white graphics, probably prints of beautiful waterfalls around the world and I would decide, Zen flow. I would wallpaper as I already mentioned. I'd use a wall to a maximum of 2, with a trendy, small structures such as bamboo wallpaper in a neutral color wet sand, I would use dark ebony brown (almost black) furniture in clear lines, add some metals (I ' d for a brushed satin finish) somewhere opt (in the lamps, a vase, a fountain, etc.) Add a touch of red somewhere (more than likely in an amaryllis plant that has a rich sunset-red flower instead of a pillow), a natural fiber accent throw rug somewhere to paint, the other 2 or three walls of either the dominant color of the The neutral wallpaper or go a little funky and use of the turquoise Caribbean Sea and the balance of turquoise with another item in the room, opt for the same 3 colors of light of the Turkish goal. This is done by you could be one (and only one!) Another element is either a work of art with it turquoise, the curtains, or a turquoise color in the visual tree of the curtains or maybe something smaller, such as coasters, or a vase. I would definitely aim for the minimalist mood in the room ...
Obviously, what mood you present depends also on the furniture you have, if you are ready to replace the furniture ... I am firmly convinced that we do not live in a disposable society ... If your furniture is still in good condition, so hold on to it for now ... There is certainly a way to work with him and that is what is going ReDesign ever!
Whatever you choose, keep in mind that have complete color harmony in every room, it has 3 colors ... And I repeat, there are black & white, the colors do not, you're right to add to your topic ... To select 3 colors that make you happy, laugh, make you smile, relax, or inflated ... What ever you seek! Make yourself happy! Oh ... and know that it is very important to black in every room, no matter what the black. Black is the base, which together based on overall design, as each color that you include in your room included.
Enjoy your new space!
