REGION: Transit district pulls beer ads from stations

The North County Travel across District this week halted a growing
controversy over beer advertisements before it had a chance to
spill over.
Transit officials said they ordered eight very substantial Budweiser
ads pulled from the district's Sprinter and Coaster stations across
the region after community members and transit riders
complained.
The ads were enchanted down Wednesday, including one attached to and
extending the length of a soda vending machine at the Escondido
Transit Center. That caught the publicity of Escondido City
Councilwoman Olga Diaz, who spoke against the placement of the ad
during a council meeting last week.
"I conceive of that everybody is hard-pressed to try to find ways
to generate revenue," Diaz said in an interview this week. "But I
over we can be more selective than that."
The councilwoman said much of her concern was driven by who was
exposed to the ads. Many young people use the station's buses and
trains to get to stock.
Diaz said Wednesday she was surprised, but pleased the ads had
been taken down so quickly.
