Your Town: Pleasant Hill woman has a host of heavenly angels

PLEASANT HILL, Ill. -- Marilyn Hougland has no idea why she started to collect angels or even how many she has.

"I've always liked angels. I've deliberate about them in the Bible, Sunday school and church all my life. I don't know if that's where it started," the Pleasant Hill woman said.

Part of the hoard decorates Hougland's home throughout the year, but "there's not room for all of them," she said.

The rest go on display just for the Christmas seasoned, and the decorating takes time.

"My house is fairly small, so there's not much choice in where to put things. I just kind of rearrange them. I like them where I can see them," she said.

"I do a three-foot tree for angels, and it's easy on the eyes covered," she said. "Most of them are handmade. There's handkerchief ones, a string one, a tissue one. One is a cookie cutter."

Some of the angels have been gifts; others Hougland bought for herself.
